Synopsis

2017 was the costliest year for natural disasters in United States’ history. It has long been known that every $1 spent on disaster mitigation saves at least $4 in recovery costs, and new tools are making it easier than ever to prioritize your investments. The implementation of technological advances can significantly reduce the time between disaster and recovery keeping citizens from being pushed beyond their breaking point. From risk calculation and underwriting, to flood mapping, damage assessment, client intake, and information sharing, there is underutilized technological potential to improve disaster planning, mitigation and recovery operations nationwide. Speakers will examine the growing threat of natural disasters and how public data, mapping tools, and artificial intelligence are allowing local government to better prepare for, respond to, and mitigate the hazards posed by disasters.
